How do you get PXE talking to a Deployment Point without using a Disc?

find the iso located the distribution share normally distribution\boot\LiteTouchPE_x86.iso.

Add this to your WDS server.  then pxe boot should work ok.  I have not got round to doing this myself yet, but it should work.

to do this launch windows Deployment Services (from your WDS server).  start > programs > Admin Tools > Windows Deployment Services. Go to the Boot Images Righ clcik and add the ISO mentioned above.

I installed the Windows Deployment Service and then added the WIM file to 'Boot Images'. As DHCP is not running on this server I configured the Windows Deployment Service with most of the default settings.

When I power up a new desktop, PXE doesn't recognise the boot image?

Do I need to add the option tag 60 to the DHCP server that exists on the domain but not on this server?

Regards

I know this is silly, but make sure your PXE Response Settings are set to "Respond to all (known and unknown) client computer. And set the PXE response to as low as you want to make it (I have mine set at zero)

You really don't need to mess with just about anything (That option 60 thing doesn't need to be checked)

This setting is already in place. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

If your DHCP server is not on your WDS server you need to ensure that the option 60 is configured for the DCHP server that is assigning addresses. By default this option must be manually added. To do this open a command window and type (This is done on the DHCP server machine NOT the WDS machine):

netsh

dhcp

server \\dhcpservername

add optiondef 60 PXEClient string 0 comment PXEClient

set optionvalue 60 string PXEClient

Close the command window. Open your dhcp console and verify that the new option exists in your server options.

If at all possible, it is easier to troubleshoot DHCP issues if the dhcp server resides on the same server as your WDS/MDT server. Ensure that the WDS server is authorized in DHCP (WDS Advanced Property Tab) and that the DHCP settings are set to listen on port 67 (WDS DHCP Property Tab), meaning the boxes are unchecked.

My WDS server is on it's own server, and I never touched any DHCP configuration.

If you already added the litetouchx86.wim to your boot image. and your WDS service is started... and your boot image is enabled. Then you have a network problem. More then likely your WDS SERVER and the machine you are trying to pxe boot are are 2 different subnets / vlans. To overcome this you need to use IPHELPER. or.... Make sure your client computer is on the same subnet as the WDS server.
