Hallo!

I want to deploy Windows XP with SMS ZTI. I want to partition the target computer with the Task Sequencer so I have to use Windows PE 2005 with the Windows Server 2003 SP1 source files. But when I add this Windows PE 2005 it runs not from RIS. Our RIS Server is a Windows Server 2003 SP1. When I did this with Windows PE 2004 with the Windows XP SP2 source file I can boot successfully from RIS. Now the Computer boots and starts to load WinPE. The progress bar turns to the right side, then short Please wait... and then the curser blinks on the upper left side and ... nothing.

Can you help me?

Well, first of all, are you sure that it is indeed from RIS it is booting? You haven't added a boot image to WDS or anything that might be taking over?

You can confirm that it is in fact booting WinPE from the RIS server by looking at the setupapi.log that is created in the RemoteInstall\Setup\English\Images\\i386 catalogue every time a machine boots (unless you have write-protected the directory). If the file exists, it is updated every time a machine boots when WinPE starts to detect hardware and match to drivers.

If it gets to that point that it starts to detect hardware, you might get a clue about where it hangs in that file.
