Hi guys,

What is the best way to install 2008 hotfixes (.msu extension) during LTi deployment?

I assume this can be done in the task sequence.  The is a built-in Windows Update node within the Task Sequence, can this be use for this purpose?

cheers.

I've never deployed 2008, but I would assume you can handle it just like in Vista. In Vista you just add the hotfixes to the "OS Packages" section of MDT and they will be installed automatically.

You will have to add them as applications into the workbench and add them to the task sequence.

Or you can copy them to the machine harddrive and create a script to install them silenty and call the script from the task sequence.

Hi guys,

Ok I managed to find the solution to my own problem.

I am using MDT to deploy Windows Server 2008. To apply updates (hotfixes) to the image, I imported them into the "OS Packages" folder in Deployment Workbench. I created 2 groups, one for 32-Bit and another for 64-Bit.

Then in my task sequence I modify the "Apply Patches" command to install the correct package group. This will install the updates offline, so my OS is patched before it boots into the gui mode.

This only works for .cab files, won't work with hotfixes using the .msi extension.
