Can I please have some advice on using custom images with MDT 2008 ? I have got my server deploying core images (XP and Vista) fine but I’m having difficulties with my custom images. This is what I am doing but not sure if this is correct as it’s all new to me:

1) Create my custom image

2) Shut down machine and create the new image using PE.

3) Copy image to the server and use a standard client task sequence.

4) Edit the sysprep.inf file so it joins the domain etc

However the new images deploys down fine but its not reading any of the sysprep information as its asking to input information that I have already inputted.

Do I need to Sysprep the image before I create a Wim image ?

Am I setting this up all wrong ?

Thanks in advice.

James

If you look at your task sequence click on the install folder there is a install operating system task. If you click on that you should be able to see a drop down box with a list of OS that have been imported that you can select. I had that problem once where it wouldn't ask me for an OS I ended up having a corrupt task sequence. I tried to modify it to add in a few thing that I always add and I corrupted it. Pulled a good one off of backup and it has worked since.

Don't forget to modify the sysprep.inf file that is in your WIM file to include any of the MDT stuff that it needs (The GUIRUNONCE field for example). I typically do this by mounting my WIM file for offline access after I've captured it.
