Is this supported, I have created 2 install groups

One to install xp if the OSguid condition is met and one for Vista if the OSguid condition is met

It will not install the second OS in the task sequence, it skips the first one but will also skip the second one.

Any ideas

We do something like this, one task sequence that builds XPSP2, XPSP3 and XP Tablet based on a custom variable.
Depending on the custom variable we set the OSGUID variable with the GUID from OperatingSystems.xml
Only have a single "install operating system" task, and the OS that appears in the drop down list effectively changes on the fly as the build is going through.

Supported though...is a different question altogether ;)
