What is the best method for deploying SP3?  Do I need to redo all of the images we have?

In my opinion I would not think you need to re-create your image. You should be able to import Sp3 into your OS Packages and define a task sequence to install Sp3. Or you  could install it as an application with .exe as well. Just my thought, still somewhat a noob with MDT but I think that could work. Any reason why you want to install Sp3?

Cheers!

We are being told from above to look at methods of deploying SP3 to all of our workstations, don't know the reasons but I hope somebody does.  I am assuming it is a method of making sure we are caught up on patches, the down side is we don't install every patch, but if looks like we are now.

I was thinking I could do it as an app but I was wondering if we could do it faster by adding it to the image.  But I havn't been able to find a way to slipstream it into an existing .wim image yet.

So I thought I would check here

Dan

If it were me I would deploy it as an application. Why is. There has been some capatibilty issues running Sp3. If you were to run into issue with Sp3, your core image would still be stable and you redeploying would be less hassle then having to re-create an image.

be careful, you have to have IE7 prior to sp3. There are still some steps you might need to research before installing IE7 and SP3 we too are looking at it and it may be a little tricky.

I have both systems at my company, and we aren't having any issues that I can see. SP3 is integrated into the source of a few images, and it is added as an application for any image that we haven't rebuilt. What is this issue with IE7? Our slipstreamed images of course don't have IE7 installed, and they seem to be doing just fine. They get IE7 from WSUS.

Farmerpete, how did you slipstream the sp.  We have been trying to find directions and havn't found anything yet on how to add them to our .wim images.
