Hi,

Been using our deployment box for a while but yesterday it started givingme the same error when i try to run the X64 WinPE image.

PXE boot fine

F12

Choose WinPE (either SP1 X86 or SP1 X64)

Whenever I choose X64 as soon as the progress bar is fully loaded it should then load WinPE to take me to Wizard.hta however as soon as the bar completes I get a "windows failed to load error" iastor.sys.

I have double checked for a newer update at intel, removed old driver from Out of box drivers, Updated Lab and WDS but still it keeps giving me the error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The Intel driver WinPE (2.0) is loading is not suited for Vista64. It should be, but it isn't. If you leave it in the driver box because you need it for 32 bit xp intallation, you can modify the .inf file so it seems to be a 32bit driver only. This way WinPE (and in a later moment a Vista64 intallation itself) will not try to use it.

For example:
Original iastor.inf:
[Manufacturer]
%INTEL%=INTEL_HDC,ntamd64

[INTEL_HDC]
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104

[INTEL_HDC.ntamd64]
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104

Modified 32bit only iastor.inf:
[Manufacturer]
%INTEL%=INTEL_HDC

[INTEL_HDC]
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2682&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C6&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_mobl_Inst_RAID, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_282A&CC_0104

This workaround helped me a lot.
Make sure you create a backup of the original inf file without making it recognisable as .inf file... otherwise the backup wil just be another driver .inf file.
