I setup a test lab with the BDD running on 2003 Server and got most of it working so far.  I have a rather weird issue that seems to effect a few models/hardware devices.  For instance, video on a Dell Optiplex GX260 and Video/Modem on a Optiplex 755 don't install by default eventhough the drivers are there.  In both cases, the network card is installed so I can browse to the server share that contains the drivers, which were the same files added to the driver pack in the Workbench.  If I use device manager on each PC and point to these driver files, it copies over to System32 and works fine - my question is why isn't this happening automatically like the rest of the hardware?  I could copy these problem drivers to the system32 folder by default on my main image, but that seems like a band-aid to what could be a larger problem.

The deployment completes without any errors too, so I'm not sure what's really going on.  Any suggestions or comments on this one?

Would you be able to post your BDD.log file or at least the relevant sections of it relating to the driver discovery actions along with your drivers.xml and drivergroup.xml files?

Hi Scott,

I have attached the log files you requested.  I did find a few new items since posting here.  First, the whole system32 idea probably isn't the best, since after some reading the drivers are supposed to be copied to c:\drivers (a hidden folder).  After taking a look, the base folder is there but the entire folder didn't copy over.  I suspected it was related to the WinPeCacheThreshold since the video driver folders are rather large.  I am pretty sure I did apply this fix correctly, and I don't think it fixed it.  While I'm still looking, any other suggestions you have are appreciated.

Hi kcnychief-

Some drivers are two tiered and they have to be added in  your sysprep.inf before the  image is  deployed.  I ran into this issue with RealTek Audio drivers on many of my Dell Clients.

Interesting proposal - I'm curious though, what would be the path to reference in the sysprep.inf file?  For instance the path on my deployment server is c:\drivers, so I assume I would put that in as well.  Do I just need to put something in the oempnpdriverpath like this:

OemPnPDriversPath="Drivers\videodriverfolder"

Would that be sufficient, or do I need to go deeper if it is truly two-tiered?

Here is a microsoft article that dives deep into this topic. I like Ben's article a bit more, it breaks it down a little easier. Ben's is discussing mass storage drivers. That is most likely the biggest issue I've run into with deployments.

Also, there is a known issue with some OEM video drivers and your reference image may need to have a hotfix applied.

Let me know how that goes.

P.S. There are other hotfixes that may help too: 888111 and 890463  - these helped me out in the past with a modem driver issue and other audio issues.
