Hi

I upgraded a working RIS Windows 2003 SP1 server to SP2 and I activated and configured WDS to run in Mixed mode.

However, the server is not working or responding to PXE any more…

If I run “Perform Diagnostic Check” from “Windows Deployment Services Legacy” it states that the following service is not started:

“Single Instance Storage Groveler”

It is impossible to start the service “Single Instance Storage Groveler” manually. By the way, the WDS service is started.

Has anybody out there seen this problem and “knows” how to fix it ?

Where's you DHCP server? Is it on the same server?

If Windows DS is installed on a server running a DHCP service it will not automatically be configured to respond to clients, instead two options, Do not listen on port 67 and Configure DHCP option 60 to ‘PXE Client’ should be configured within Windows DS.

To troubleshoot Windows DS deployment issues, Windows DS logging should be enabled. This is done by changing the following registry value from ‘0’ to ‘1’:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\WDSServer\EnableFileTracing

Once this has been done the Windows DS - Server Service should be restarted to implement the change. Subsequently Windows DS server logs can be found under the following location:

C:\Windows\Tracing\WDSServer.log

Thank you guys for your help. No DHCP server is installed on the WDS server (it is a separate server) however, after applying the SP2 on the RIS servers, the bootfiles located at E:\RemoteInstall\Boot and pointed by the new WDS service are not on the server...actually they are nowhere on the server...

This could explain the "file not found" error I got when I run F12 from a client...
