I am using the SIM to create an answer file.  I have found that when creating a local account, the value of the Display Name is used for the User name and the User Name is used for the Display Name.  Can anybody confirm this behavior?

I am using the SIM for Vista SP1.

Ralph,

I can't confirm this at this moment. But I'd urge you to consider using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (2008) as the basis for what you're doing and then customizing as necessary. It sounds like you're trying to build your own framework by using the Windows Automated Installation Kit, and Microsoft has done a lot of the heavy lifting for you already.

Best, Jerry

Yes, we plan to go down that path but we wanted experiment with the tools and build a basic unattended. One of our requirements is that we are not permitted to use the network. We install from CD/DVD and then image the machine.

I will definitely be looking at MDT 2008.

Ralph,

MDT 2008 supports that scenario well.

Best, Jerry
