| | Does anyone know if you can configure the Recycle Bin properties for the machine as opposed to individual users? It appears you could do it in the beta of Vista but that has now been removed. I saw an article on Global Properties but it does not exist. | | | |

| Ralph,
What properties are you trying to configure, specifically?

| In Windows XP, if you went into the Recycle Bin properties, you had a Global tab. Here you specify, a single setting for all drives. In XP, you had a slider with a percentage (default I believe is 10%). With Vista, you see a size in MB, which amounts to 10% but I do not see where you can configure a "global" setting.
In my initial research, trying to configure this via the registry seems to be difficult since it uses a hardware device path. | | | |

| | The Windows recycle bin has properties. To display them, right-click the recycle bin icon on the desktop, and choose properties from the shortcut menu.Be sure to right-click the recycle bin and check out its properties. The default amount of space allocated for saving deleted files is 10%. You may experience the following symptoms: When you right-click the recycle bin the Empty recycle bin command may be unavailable. ============================================== Peter

| This setting appears to be a user setting rather than a machine setting, therefore it is pointless trying to set this in your build for a 'one-settings-affects-all' type effect. I trust you have a Windows 2003/2008 domain and can make use of Group Policy. If so, refer to the following article for the location of the Maximum Recycle Bin Size setting in Group Policy: http://www.wyckedone.net/2006-03-28/windows-xp-limit-recycle-bin-size/ If not, then you can also try implementing your desired settings in Default User Profiles. Again, as this is a user setting it will be stored in the HKCU key (ntuser.dat) and you can set this in a Default User Profile. Just my two cents Mark | | | |
