| Hi Guys, Has anyone had any experience with using an MDT image/task sequence to generate an image to send to a PC manufacturer (like Dell, HP, etc) so that they'll ship your image pre-installed? I've done it with ordinary scripted builds in the past, but is there a handy method of doing it through MDT or something I should look out for? Cheers, Konrad. | | | |

| I've looked at this a bit now and have an initial plan of attack.
At current, I have two XP task sequences, one that does a scripted build and generates a WIM image, and the second that deploys that WIM image. I assume this is how most people work.
I was thinking of doing the following:
1. I'll copy my second TS and edit it so that: 1.a It inserts a new step in "Postinstall" just after "Configure" that edits the sysprep.inf file to remove the ComputerName section (most likely using AutoIt) 1.b Change the "Restart" at the end of "Postinstall" so that it instead does a shutdown. 2. Run this new TS on my reference machine and after it shutsdown from the above step, manually take a ghost (or maybe imagex) image of the hard drive and send that off to the manufacturer.
I guess I could go a step further and do an "Apply Windows PE" and do an automated capture rather than do a shutdown and a manual capture, but I'll need to see how much time I have.
In theory, when a new machine is imaged with this image (at the factory), then when it's connected to the network and turned on down here, the sysprep mini-setup will prompt for the computername, and then windows will launch into the rest of the TS.
Any opinions? I don't think it will take me too long to test this approach. | | | |
